How To Make Rich Kunu Drink

 


     Kunu is a popular drink made from grain such as millet, sorghum, or corn. It is prepared mostly in the Northern side of Nigeria ( Hausas ). It is rich in protein and high in fiber. It takes 2 - 3 days for it's preparation due to the process of fermentation.

 INGREDIENTS

3 Cups of Millet.

1 medium size of sweet potato

2 Medium sized Ginger

1 Tablespoon Cloves ( Konofiri )


  INSTRUCTIONS

1.) Soak the maize in a bowl of water for 2 days (48 hours) in order to allow it to ferment. 

Note: Water should be changed every 7 hours.

2.) Rinse all ingredients thoroughly with clean water such as millet, ginger, cloves (Konofiri) and sweet potatoe into a blender.

3.) Gently pour out the blended ingredient into a Large bowl, adding cold water to it, in order to make it easier to mix and sieve.

4.) Carefully pour out the content into a sieve pan or bag to sieve the mixture. Then throw away the chaff.

5.) Leave the liquid to settle for about 7 hours, you have your thick paste below.

6.) Sieve out the liquid above  leaving the settled thick paste

7.) Simply divide the thick substance into 2 bowls. Bowl A and Bowl B. Add hot water over the content of Bowl A and stir.(Stir as if you are making pap) add Bowl B into Bowl A, and stir.

8.) You can then decide on adding much  water as you want. Either thick or watery.

Note: Kunu are always made in a thick form.

9.) Sweeten with sugar


10.) Drink is ready. Refrigerate.


    BENEFIT OF KUNU

1.) Kunu lowers the level of Cholesterol and prevent the formation of blood clots, due to its ginger content.

2.) Kunu prevent chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis

3.) It contains ingredients known as lignin, which fight against cancer, and is beneficial for heart disease treatment.

4.) It is rich in fibre, which helps to promote healthy digestive system.

5.) Kunu helps to increase the flow of breast milk, which is recommended for nursing mother.
